Actually, “Asian fusion” may be more accurate.
According to the Passionate Foodie blog, the co-owner of a restaurant in the South End neighborhood of Boston finds few men are dining at his establishment:
In the current Stuff Magazine (11/17-11/30/09), there is an interview (p.58) with Christopher Myers, co-owner of Myers+Chang. Christopher stated that their clientele is almost 85% women. He believes that might be due to the restaurant serving many small plates. He assumes that many men in Boston don’t want to share plates with others, or eat off a plate that is sitting in front of another.
I’ve been to Myers+Chang many times. (It’s located at 1145 Washington Street, near the corner of Berkeley Street.) Never noticed the discrepancy in sexes but doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
The blogger comes up with several hypotheses of the reasons but he/she, like me, is perplexed.
