Think people are sitting idle while we struggle through the recession? Nope. Not in the South End, at least.
Photos that a friend shared with me of construction going on in the South End neighborhood of Boston.
Well, not everything is swell. The photo of the empty storefront is from Washington Street where four street-level slots are now vacant. Pho Republique closed this past week (but a replacement restaurant has been rumored) and Sage closed “for renovations” but is believed to be closed for good. Now-State Representative Aaron Michlewitz used one of the other two spots for his campaign office, this past spring, but that space and the one next door have been otherwise vacant for years.
There’s a good number of empty retail spaces on Tremont, as well, but not enough to scare many people. There is new storefronts at 641-643 Tremont as well as at 657-659 Tremont, both due to new construction just being completed. Note to entrepreneurs: we don’t need another dress shop. Or, another dry cleaners. Or, a third eyeglass shop.
