Big plans proposed for Berkeley Street in the South End

56_berkeleyPlans have been submitted to bring a hotel and office building to Berkeley Street in Boston’s South End neighborhood.

According to a request for a hearing before the Boston Zoning Board of Appeal, 56 Berkeley, LLC, is requesting to change the legal occupancy of 56-56A Berkeley from a lodging house and store to hotel with offices. Combine lots and erect a four story addition.

This is the location of the pizza shop and old union headquarters, across from the 7-Eleven.

If I’m not mistaken, the Ellis Memorial and Eldridge House has purchased this property. It’s the first I’ve heard of any “hotel”.
